FILL A TRUCK EVENT AT MARKET BASKET IS A HUGE SUCCESS

FILL A TRUCK EVENT AT MARKET BASKET IS A HUGE SUCCESS

We would like to thank Market Basket, Mr. John Martin, Mr. Chris Morris, Mr. Brian Paige, Mr. Carlos Velez, the Market Basket employees and the MARKET BASKET CUSTOMERS for their tremendous support of our Fill A Truck Event at Market Basket in Leominster this past weekend. We greatly appreciate the outpouring of support from our community in helping us to feed the food insecure children in our community. The amount of donations we received was far above our expectations, will help to feed many children and we greatly appreciate it. It takes a village to do what we do and Leominster and the surrounding communities are one fantastic village!! Our community came out in full force this past week and they all remembered that the enemy is hunger not the hungry!!

With sincere gratitude,

Kylee & the kare kits team

KYLEE'S KARE HOSTS SUMMER OUTING FOR THE FAMILIES IN TRANSITION

KYLEE'S KARE HOSTS SUMMER OUTING FOR THE FAMILIES IN TRANSITION

LEOMINSTER -- For the approximately 85 families in transition that call the city's Days Inn home, Saturday afternoon's ice-cream social and barbecue organized by Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz was a real treat.

"It's amazing. They're a great organization," said Karine Traverse, as she kept a close watch on her four children while they were running around the hotel grounds and enjoying hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream, free toys, clothing and activities such as face painting, glitter tattoos, and balloon twisting.

"Look, Mom, I got this just for you," said Aniyah Sorduff, 4, while handing a her mother, Destiny, a pink poodle made by the balloon artist who entertained the nearly 200 children with her creations.
Destiny, like Karine, was grateful for the afternoon of activities offered by Kylee's charitable organization. "It's just awesome that there is an organization that does things like this for families in need," said Destiny, who was cooling off under a shade tree, playing with her two other children and enjoying a hot dog.

Kylee McCumber, 13, was running around trying coordinate the more-than 30 volunteers who were helping with the event that she calls her favorite of the year. "I really love that we get to interact with the children and actually get to know them," said Kylee.

This was the second year the event was held by Kylee's Kare Kits, which offers children nutritious meals each week when school is in session.

When school is out during the summer, the organization provides meals twice a week to families at the hotel and Kylee learned last year that many rarely get a chance to eat meat or enjoy ice cream.
Last summer, she said, because they didn't have enough resources, the event was a day of activities and an ice-cream social.

This year, however, the group raised enough money to offer families grilled goodies.

In addition to lunch, sweets and fun, the organization offered, for free to the hotel's residents, gently-used clothing, new toys and personal hygiene products, which had been donated by Unilever.
Last year, Kylee was chosen by Unilever, a multinational company that sells consumer products, to star in a commercial highlighting the charitable efforts of several teenagers from around the country.
Kylee also pointed out the donation of watermelon and salads from Leominster's Our Lady of the Lake church.

Two volunteers on Saturday were beneficiaries of Kylee's efforts when they lived in the hotel during a difficult period in their family's life last year. Elizabeth, 15, and Monique Baxley, 13, traveled from their new home in Lawrence to "give it back." "It's great to see the kids' smiling faces and having fun," said Elizabeth as Monique looked on nodding in agreement. They understood what a difference Kylee's Kare Kits for Kidz can make. "I don't know how we would've made it without the Kare Kits," said Monique.

Days Inn manager Umesh Patel said Kylee's group is a "great asset to the community." "It's great to have caring people in Leominster who share their love by taking time to help," said Patel.

A SUMMER TREAT FOR THE KARE KIT KIDZ AT THE DAYS INN

A SUMMER TREAT FOR THE KARE KIT KIDZ AT THE DAYS INN

Saturday, July 11th was a special day for the kare kit team!! We held our 2nd annual Ice Cream Social and Barbecue for the children living at the Days Inn Shelter. There currently are approximately 85 families with children living at the shelter and they were treated to a barbecue, ice cream social and a fun filled day. The children received bubbles, sidewalk chalk, hula hoops, jump ropes, coloring books and crayons just to name a few of the items on hand. They were able to choose from gently used clothing and toys as well.

The children could receive glitter tattoos by Heather Mazzaferro as well as have their faces painted by Jackie of The Party Fun and her daughter Aubree who twisted balloons into all types of animals, hats and even swords for the boys!! Kylee and her fabulous team of friends played games with the children throughout the day as well.

Unilever donated shampoo, conditioner, and various hair products for the families as well. Kylee has participated in Unilever Project Sunlight last fall when she traveled to India to be part of commercials on child hunger and other world issues and they donated some of their products for the families.

The barbecue included hamburgers and hotdogs provided by the kare kits team, salad and watermelon provided by The Brown Bag Ministry of Our Lady of the Lake Church, fresh rolls provided by Texas Roadhouse and chips donated by Ginny's Pantry. Beverages include chocolate milk, juice and water.

Desert consisted of beautifully decorated cupcakes made by Beth Foley and decorated by the kare kit team. Cookies donated by the Brown Bag Ministry and delicious ice cream from Cherry Hill Ice Cream.

Fresh garden vegetables were donated by Dave & Paula Harper for the families as well!!

Thank you to Michael Rosenberg the owner of Promotion in Motion the company that makes Welch's Fruit snacks for his donation of fruit snacks as well as other snack items he had shipped to us from Liberty/Vistar in Mechanicsville PA. We greatly appreciate the continued support of Michael as well as our new friends at Liberty/Vistar.

We would like to thank everyone from the community who donated toothbrushes & toothpaste, used clothing, used toys, new toys, and items for the event. It is only because of the help of many people that we are able to help the children and their families!!

A special thank you to our fabulous kare kit team and krew and volunteers from Our Lady of the Lake Church and the community. Seeing the smiles on the childrens faces was a gift to us all! Please know that you helped us to make a difference in their lives!!
